CONCEPT OF THE TOUR
WHAT WE DO?
We begin our tour at the Beth-Israel Synagogue, which started construction in 1905 under the edict of Sultan Abdulhamid II in İzmir’s Karataş district and opened for service in 1907. This synagogue holds the distinction of being the largest in İzmir. Next, we’ll proceed to a location known as the ‘Elevator,’ passing through Dario Moreno Street, named after the Jewish-origin artist and admirer of İzmir, Dario Moreno. Our following destination is Havra Street, home to the Small Synagogues, some of which boast a history dating back 400 years.
This area is situated near the historic Kemeraltı Bazaar, with a seamless transition from Havra Street to the bustling bazaar. Another historical gem on our itinerary is the Agora of İzmir. Originating in the 4th century BC, the Agora was reconstructed with support from the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius following the 178 AD earthquake. Our final stop brings us to Kadıfekale, another captivating historical site.
